Earthquake Relief Information
15 05 2008Dear Friends and Family,As you know, there was a large-scale disaster here on Monday, and all of the areas surrounding Chengdu have seen massive tragedy.
I’m hearing a lot of requests for information on how people not present in the area, and the best answer I have to that is to send money. There are millions of people in areas that have been completely crushed who need medical treatment, and beyond that there are children left parentless, parents left childless, and cities that will need to be rebuilt. In Chengdu–because so many of us feel we have been lucky beyond imagination–everybody is looking for ways to pull together and help our neighbors, and we’re working directly with organizations going into the affected areas as well as hospitals in the city who are receiving huge numbers of injured people from those areas.
I wanted to forward the following information from an e-mail I sent out to the CHENGDOO Magazine community earlier today in case you were interested in giving some money toward this effort. I know there’s a lot of organizations who are taking money on this behalf, but given international boundaries, different statuses of organizations, and various levels of administration, I feel the best choice is to try to get the money as close to the source as possible, so below are those that I have confirmed are directly active in the affected areas as well as relevant information on how to donate money.
Thanks and love,

Many of us are speaking with relatives, friends, and media outside of the country, most of whom are asking what they can do to help. The most practical assistance that can be provided over distance is money, but it is important to ensure that donations are being made to the branches of organizations working in Chengdu and surrounding areas.
